Find Your Peak Time of Day for Productivity

March 5, 2009

While surfing around, I stumbled on this article: Accomplish More: Work At Your Peak Times Of Day In the article, Ali Hale talks about how it’s important to find your peak work time and utilize it to the best of your ability. I learned this lesson pretty quickly when I was going to school and working full-time. I learned that morning/early afternoon is my peak time but unfortunately I was usually at work then so I figured out when my next best time was immediately after work. So, I tailored my schoolwork schedule around those times. On Saturday and Sunday mornings I would get up (after letting myself sleep in of course) and do as much schoolwork as I could before calling it a day. Then during the week, I would have a snack in the afternoon at my desk before heading home to hit the books.

When I talk to college students I try to offer this bit of advice (if I think they’re open to receiving it) find your most productive time of the day and do your schoolwork then. Make it a priority to capitalize on that time. It works.

School Update

May 5, 2008

After six long years of going to school full-time while working full-time building my career I finally graduated, actually this past November. My mother moved in literally the very next day, talk about crazy. My graduation was in February but I chose to buy an iPhone rather than fly down to Florida to walk across the stage with strangers (I went school online). My degrees are in Information Technology and Business Management. I’m so happy to be done. I still have a hard time believing that I’m not supposed to be writing a paper (or 2-3) every weekend. A funny thing I’ve noticed about myself is I somehow during the process of going to school I decided that I cannot make commitments for my weekends because they stressed me out and I didn’t perform as well in my studies. So now, I don’t have that problem yet I still hesitate every time I’m asked to commit to something. I just want to hoard my time now that I finally have some.

Happy New Years!

January 11, 2006

Happy New Years!

The holidays are over, my finals are over and now it’s time for wedding plans and a new semester. I started last week and my first papers are due this weekend. My first classes of the semester were last night and they both went well. The changed to a new format and the chats run very fast now, you really have to pay attention, unlike before. I used to multi-task during class and there will be less of that now. But since I’m paying for my education, I don’t mind.

The wedding is planned for June 24th, 2006! I need to get cracking on confirming the caterer, the cake, the photographer, minister and DJ. I’ve spoken with a caterer and I’m praying they can do a decent Mexican food spread. This isn’t Texas ya know. I really want it to rock. I will have to try everything first and since I’m such a salsa snob I’m thinking about giving them my recipe to use.

I need to really start thinking about my backyard and how I can transform it into a wedding oasis. I’m thinking lots of red flowers and hanging lanterns. I’m wondering how I can keep John from seeing me in the same house….I’m not sure that will happen. We’ll have to see. I’m such a DIY girl; I have to be there to set things up. Maybe he can do some of it ahead of time and sleep at Charlie’s house the night before. Can I trust him to not stay up so late that he’s tired at the wedding???? That’s a good question…

Finals, Christmas and Wedding plans…Oh My!

December 7, 2005

Ok, so the Open House Brunch went off without a hitch and now it’s time to focus on Christmas, my finals and then….the wedding!!!

This morning, I gazed out at the backyard daydreaming about the wedding taking place there…albeit covered in snow currently I was still able to “see” it. There are so many things that need to take place before that. I should really get started but I’m doing my best to hold off until after finals.

I was such a slacker this semester…I have soooooo much work to do in the next two weeks. I will get it all done and I will set a record for me. That’s what ya get for being a slacker!

Rambling Update…

May 20, 2005

I made it through Romeo & Juliet and now I’m reading A Midsummer Night’s Dream. And of course, I’m behind on my reading again. I’ve been painting our spare bedroom, it looks great but it doesn’t improve my GPA. Ha!I hosted a Fajitas and Ritas type party last night at the house for the girls. It was a blast and I have tons of margaritas left. I guess we’ll just have to have another party (twist my arm). I found an awesome Mexican restaurant in Stoneham, Mass. It may not sound exciting to you, but I desperately miss my Mexican food so I’m thrilled!!!

I have started my container garden. I can’t wait to see it all blooming! I’ll post pictures on the website when I have something to show. 🙂

Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet

May 3, 2005

Who’s idea was it for me to take a Shakespeare class anyway? I have to write papers about “Who is Juliet?” The stories are detailed and long. I think I’ll start enjoying it more once I get caught up on all my papers. Ah…tomorrow is another day. Tonight I have to finish reading my chapters…or Acts as they are referred to in Romeo and Juliet. My Conflict Resolution and Team Dynamics class has been going well. So far I have written a 500 word essay, numerous message board postings and participated in two online seminars. I’m probably boring you all so I’m going to call my girlfriend Donna to get her flight to Boston to visit me booked.

School & Gardening update

April 21, 2005

I started a new semester this week. This go around I’m taking Conflict Resolution & Team Dynamics and Shakespeare: The Human Condition. My first classes were last night and they went well, better than previous semesters. I actually like BOTH of my professors. I usually get a good one with a not so good one (to put it nicely) but I scored this time! Thank God! For the Shakespeare class, we’re going to read Romeo & Juliet, Midsummer Night’s Dream and All is True: Henry VIII. A comedy, a tragedy and a drama. You should see the book the school shipped me!!! It’s 4 inches think and the print is tiny! We’re going to try an absorb about 60 pages of the old English a week. I have a feeling that it will equate to taking a Tylenol PM.

This past weekend’s weather was so beautiful! We put the patio table back out and I planted about 12 pots of plants. For Christmas John gave me a gift certificate to an online plant company and I bought a lime tree, a citrus tree and a strawberry pot, the one with all the holes on the side so the plants drape along the sides of the pot. I just love everything that I got, that was a perfect gift for me! I just put in an additional order for about 30 more plants so my patio this year should be beautiful. I cut back on veggies and bought more flowers. Pink, red and purple are my theme for this year. I can’t wait to see everything in full bloom. I know I should be saving all of my money for our wedding but a girl’s gotta live!
