Buying a New Car Can Be So Much Fun!

August 25, 2008

I’ve been lucky in life. I’ve bought a few cars brand new. It was not without hard work. This is actually the first time I’ve bought a new car while married or with access to another person’s finances. Ha! No seriously, I’ve always bought my own stuff and prided myself on it. But buying a new car never gets old. It’s so much fun to see how far I can push the sales guy and his manager into throwing in half the dealership with the car. I LOVE negotiating. This time the final deal was $5,500 off the sticker price (including a $1,500 cash back incentive), a moon roof installed at their cost for parts, and a free cargo net, dog gate and rubber mat for the back of the car. We paid $2500 less than the dealership (I made them prove to me how much they paid) thanks to knowing that they had a ton of new inventory on the lot and they had to get rid of our car to make room the 2009s. For the billionth time, thank you Internet.

We bought a 2008 Subaru Outback wagon with 57 miles on it. I decided after 5 Hondas in a row I was ready for a change. Oh wait, there was a Ford Explorer in there somewhere. With this car tthe All Wheel Drive was a huge allure as well as the back dog gate option so I can keep Duke the escape artist from jumping out of the car when we get out. But the biggest allure of all…the roof rack. Kayaks, bikes, luggage oh my! I can just imagine the options. I usually love the first snow but this year it’s going to mean so much more. They’ll have to send a rescue crew out to find me because I’ll be doing donuts in parking lots.
